I’ve Been So Lucky

When I was a little girl, my mom never told me what color of skin I’m in.

I met people, a lot of people.

They were telling me the color of my skin.

They said you are a white girl, you’re so lucky.

I was confused because I didn’t  understand.

I didn’t  understand what they were talking about.

I saw no difference among girls.

They are all the same, I thought.

I got older.

Now I understand what they have been telling me.

But I’ve been so lucky.

I see all girls are pretty no matter what color they are in.

For my mom never taught me.

To judge beauty from the color.
