Be Melodramatic. (The Underrated Drama)

Despite released 2 years ago, I just finished watching Be Melodramatic / Melo is My Nature last week. Why? Well, blame how few of voices telling how great this Korean drama is. That's why I dedicate this post to tell you why you should watch Be Melodramatic.

Be Melodramatic / Melo is My Nature is a romantic comedy K-drama released by JTBC in 2019. Directed and written by Lee Byung-Hun, the drama revolves in stories of life three bestfriends who just hit their 30s, Im Jin Joo (Choi Won Hee), Lee Eun Jung (Jeon Yeo Bin) and Hwang Han-Joo (Han Ji Eun). They were college friends and decide to live in Eun Jung and her brother's apartment together to put everyone's minds at ease.

Jin Joo is a writer, she always has a dream to be a writer. She finally got a job as an assistant writer of the well-known writer Jung Hye Jung. She was frantically energized when she was finally got the job but it  turns out giving her a sleepless and unhealthy life.
Eun Jung is a documentary director. It's her one and only main goal in her life. She held back her tongue and gulp the fact of how ridiculous, implausible work environment she got into in the production office. She had to bow her head to the senior and even was sexually assaulted. This was her turning point and she decided to make a move on her own. She started her work in documentary by living in damp yet after her long journey with Hong Dae, her source, her documentary movie becomes a high grossing film. She also involves in a romantic situation with Hong Dae, and he becomes her half of her soul. Everything changes when Hong Dae died, and Eun Jung tried to commit a suicide.
Han Joo is devoted mother and worker in an agency house. She was once married after knowing she got pregnant by the only guy that could make her laugh. But he suddenly asked her to separate and left her alone with the baby.

Why should you watch this drama?
1. Lighthearted movie
With their strong and mature friendship, you will feel relieve watching them sit together in the living room, talk about how's their days going, give their opinions and support toward each other. Although they are so independent, they don't mind to give a hand to each other.
2. Fresh Comedy
It's weird that I cannot predict how the writer would insert his sense of humor in this drama. It's not a classic comedy or a common gimmick that you usually find in other K-dramas. It's the kind of comedy that make you chuckled and whispered "stupid".
3. Production and Shooting Insight
Jinjoo's point of view and story give you a wholesome insight how a drama can be produced. The process of making the storyline for a drama, changing opinions with the director, and negotiating with agency even choosing the actors are well described and shown from Jin Joo's story. It's very interesting to learn about this bits.
4. Matter of Fact
It's a matter of fact that people tend to feel anxious when they hit 30 years old. In this drama, they present to you that it'll be okay. Your life can be messed up at that age, your life can be better at that age, and eventually you always learn something new at that age. The story is tightly related to society, friendship, family and life. It's a fact that those are the things that make you staying alive. And this drama provides you the fact to keep you moving on.
5. Slice of Life, Slice of Quote
Yes, this is a slice of life drama. Indeed it carries a lot of meaningful quotes within the characters' dialogues. It becomes more meaningful because they put the quotes in every ending of the episode. I think it's a great idea from the director.

There are many popular slice of life drama produced, but I think this one is completely underrated. With such a great characters, storyline, witty comedy and great actors, you should consider to watch this drama. Yes, I recommend you Be Melodramatic to put in your watching list now.
